Just for fun

This page is a showcase of my creative endeavours that, while not directly part of traditional theatre productions, still draw on my theatrical skills and passion.

Here you'll find a variety of personal creations. For example, I've designed and crafted costumes just for the joy of it. There's been times when set design and props have spilled over into home decoration. I've transformed my family home into spooky 'sets' for Halloween, complete with handcrafted props and atmospheric lighting. I've also helped with community events.

The items here represent a time I've been able to indulge my creative passions for fun!

Little shop of horrors (Halloween 2023)

Over October half term, I decided I wanted to build an Audrey 2 puppet. I gathered materials from various charity shops as well as my own collection of materials, and began to build the frame of the puppet with no real plan except to make it up as I went along. The puppet was finished the day before Halloween, when I had the very last minute idea to turn my house into Mushniks Flower Shop for trick or treaters. I spent that evening and the next day creating a window and door display from recycled items around my home, as well as piecing together a costume to dress up as Audrey, Seymour and Mr Mushnik with my friends.

Sweeney todd (Halloween 2024)

I've always hated horror films, and usually air on the side of caution with gore and scares. However, only recently, curiosity got the better of me, and I watched 'Sweeney Todd'. I loved it, and decided that everyone I knew must also witness the greatness I had discovered. We watched it again at a sleepover, and one of my friends quickly decided it was one of the grossist and most unsettling things she'd ever seen. So naturally, I decided to dress as Mrs Lovett for a Halloween party at her house. I gathered the pieces individually and designed and put the costume together myself, even creating a blood covered apron and rolling pin. Safe to say she was not very impressed and refused to sit anywhere near me the entire night. My costume skills was clearly far too accurate.

Theatre craft

In November 2024, I travelled independently to London, to attend 'Theatre Craft 2024', an event for all those looking for careers beyond the stage. I found loads of helpful information about my options over the next few years, as well as the opportunities a career in theatre could give me. I enjoyed the challenge of being in an unfamiliar place, as well as the independence I gained from my experience.

Musical con 2022

As soon as it was announced, we booked tickets to the very first year of Musical Con. Held annually since at the Excel in London, the event boasts fan events, meet and greets, workshops and a huge marketplace for theatre merch sellers, as well as performances and talks across two main stages. The event wasn't all it was psyched up to be, but we had fun. I met lots of other fans of my favourite shows, and learnt about all the cool elements that go into creating a show.

two-seventy (anthem of the seas)

In 2024, we cruised around spain on Royal Carribean 'Anthem of the Seas'. On board the ship I visited one of the most jaw dropping venues/theatres I have ever seen. The venue had floor to ceiling windows, giving a 270 degree view of the ocean, but in moments the place could be entirely transformed into a high tech masterpiece. As the blinds come down, the windows transform into Vistarama, an ultra-HD screen more than 100 feet wide and 20 feet tall. In front of this, six robotic screens or "roboscreens" are fixed to a scaffold. Each is attached to a robotic arm (similar to those used to build cars) that are programmed with as many movements as a human arm, within a thousandth of a millimeter so they can all move in sync or independently of each other. Surrounding the audience are many smaller trap doors disguised as plant pots, meaning at any moment during a show, an actor could pop up behind you, and you would have no idea where they came from. It was truly one of the most insane things I've ever seen, and I would love to have the opportunity one day to work there (or even just on a cruise ship).

Dr dolittle (usher)

Last summer, my dad, as a Parish councillor, organised an outdoor theatre event for the community. He hired a theatre group and asked for volunteers for things such as ushers and food and drink stalls. I encouraged a group of friends to join me, and together, we were ushers for the event. Our responsibilities were mostly simple tasks, such as checking tickets and crowd control, but we also got to sit down and enjoy the show as well. We received nothing but positive feedback from the audience and our contributions were well appreciated.
