Another component of my Performing Arts BTEC, required us to choose a skill, develop it over a few weeks, and display our progress in a variety performance. This featured a mix of dances, magic, stand up comedy as well as mime and improv, amongst other things. As the show was in December, me and a group of friends decided to perform the 12 days of christmas, changing the words to make it more comedic ('Panto Style' as it was often referred to). For this, it required me to do a lot of prop sourcing and making. From six feather dusters made from wooden spoons and feather boas, to eight pictures of chickens printed and glued to a sign, this performance brought with it a lot of thinking outside the box. The day of the dress run, I was also asked to Stage Manage the show. Sitting in the wings to ensure a smooth running, people were where they needed to be, and everyone was safe backstage. During this dress run, I was also introduced to another performer from a different class who used a wheelchair. This meant that extra precautions and measures to ensure everyone was safe and comfortable. Overall, I enjoyed doing both my performance and stage manager duties, leading the show to be a success (and the best part was I got to do the whole thing in my pyjamas).
