My Inspiration

I've created this section to share the performances and productions that have truly captivated me. Whenever I have free time, you'll probably find me at a local theatre or travelling to see a highly recommended production. I started this list because I wanted a way to remember all the great shows I saw. Some use technology in ways I never thought possible, while others have a unique creative approach.

What you'll find here is a mix of my theatre experiences. There are shows that amazed me with their innovative staging or clever use of sound and lighting. Others made a lasting impression because of powerful performances or thought-provoking themes.

I've been very privileged to enjoy many shows over the past few years, and as much as I would love to talk for hours about my love for the theatre, I have picked out a play and a musical that have especially stuck with me for a variety of different reasons.

the curious incident of the dog in the NIGHT-TIME

'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time' was one of the many shows I went to see during my GCSE Drama studies. I loved it and went to see it two more times during its tour, as well as buying a copy of the play and the book. It was incredibly different from anything I'd ever seen before.

The use of physical theatre and lifts were mesmerising. The stage, lighting and sound design perfectly suited the intentions of the play. The representation throughout the play is something that is very rarely seen in theatre today. I believe they portrayed 'Christopher' and what it is like to have autism, in a way that allowed audiences to understand and experience, without being subjective or stereotypical.

Representation is one of the things that has always been important to me, and by being presented with a narrative that frames an neurodivergent individual as the main character in a positive light, is incredibly refreshing to see.

CalendaR GIRLS

I first saw 'Calendar Girls' with my aunt at about eight years old. Looking back now, that was probably far too young to be seeing a show like that, but in fairness, I didn't remember anything from the first time I saw it. Except the music. Some of the songs stuck with me for years, and upon rediscovering it at a more appropriate age of 15, I went to see it again.
Although the cast wasn't great, I fell in love with the story all over again. The characters, the storyline and the songs all blend brilliantly together, to create one of the most emotional shows I have seen. The show tells a very basic story at its core, and unlike other musicals, doesn't rely on big dance numbers, or people flying around the stage, or anything over the top to make it impressive. Sometimes less really is more.
